When you’re younger, getting post addressed to you felt like your birthday, or Christmas, and let’s be honest, it was usually a birthday or Christmas card.
As an adult, getting post is usually followed by a sigh. Do you need a shiny, new 0% credit card? Forgot to pay your latest phone bill? Election time? TV License planning a visit? Due millions…
If you’re one of the lucky ones – and I say this very loosely because obviously a member of your family has died, and that is not good – you might have received a letter from an Heir Hunter, and you may be due some inheritance.
But what do you do if you receive one of these letters, and it looks a little suspect.
If you’re worried you’re about to get ripped off, the following points might help –
First things first, you’ve received this letter on your bog standard bit of paper. No letterhead, no evidence of a legitimate business, no fancy looking logo, no thank you scammer.
Getting a migraine trying to work out what they’re saying? An absolute grammar nightmare is a sure fire way to tell the men from the morons. You’re not going to trust someone who can’t tell the difference between a verb and an adjective, are you?
‘Not an illegal transaction’. ‘Risk free’. ‘We will release the funds to you once you follow this set of procedures’. Please excuse my informality but give over. Why don’t I just pull your finger while I’m at it?
This one, is the big one, so read carefully – you have been promised somewhere in the region of £15,000,000. Yes, FIFTEEN MILLION. Please. Don’t. This family member you have never heard of who happened to live and die in a country you can’t pronounce, is not sitting on a fortune, and it certainly isn’t coming your way.
